When providers lack knowledge of homeschool culture, their recommendations can feel misaligned, leaving parents discouraged and unsupported.
HCN's mission is to expand access to compassionate, informed mental health care for homeschooling families. We advance this mission by training mental health professionals in the cultural competence needed to effectively support homeschooling communities and by providing families with resources that empower them to homeschool in ways that align with their values and needs.
HCN envisions a future where, by 2028, every homeschooling family in all 50 states can access compassionate, knowledgeable mental health care that empowers them to thrive as parents, build healthy relationships with their children, and homeschool in the way that aligns with their values.
Our core values:
Compassion – HCN screens all providers for a compassionate attitude towards the homeschooling community.
Knowledge – All professionals in HCN's Preferred Provider Directory are required to complete HCN’s cultural competency training.
Empowerment – HCN will help, offer resources to, or refer any homeschooling family that comes to us, regardless of their situation.
The Homeschool Counseling Network, Inc. (HCN) is the only nonprofit organization to offer a dual-path educational approach, where homeschooling families are provided with knowledge, resources, and support regarding mental health, and professionals are simultaneously educated about the world of homeschooling and the mental health needs of homeschooling families. This unique approach is vital to bridging the gap between these two communities.
